A black Zentangle hole

“Look at situations from all angles, and you will become more open.”~Dalai Lama, Tibetan teacher

The Diva’s weekly Zentangle Challenge #155 is about open spaces. In Zentangle, artists almost feel the need to fill every space with tangles. Open space is, well…open, empty. Unfinished. I tell my students that it takes great courage to leave white space, to say that something is complete even though it does not look finished.

Open space is a challenge

I had a much easier time with this “open space” challenge than I have in the past. I even took a spin on the challenge and used a black tile; thus, black space. It has a different feel to it, but the same strength to leave breathing room. The gold Pentel gel pen flows nicely on these tiles, shaded with gold Prismacolor pencil. This was fun. Freeing.

Yes, it works on black too – although in a very different way to white. Your tile is lovely and makes me think of a Japanese heron for some reason – the pokeleaf has taken on life! Axxx

Lovely, this black tile with the black open space, the first one I have seen.

The first thing I thought was a long necked bird in the upper right, very nice.

Wonderful! I imagined it that one long flowering stem that grows with abandon. I love your interpretation. It all depends how we look at it.

Different but effective take on this. I also thought of an egret overlooking its nest. Maybe would not have seen this as readily if was rotated differently.

Black, and gold… What is better than that! :)
