All things creative: the book edition

“Fortune cookies are a good idea; if the message is positive, it can make your day a little better.”~Yao Ming, Chinese athlete

What can a collective do? We can change the world, one book page at a time.

The demo for tonight’s All Things Creative meeting was postponed, so it was up to me to come up with a monthly project. A big hearty thank you goes out to whoever put a copy of Addicted to Love in the supply box. It was perfect fodder for Found Poetry.

Found poetry is taking a page from a book or magazine and finding random words on the page to create a poem. Those words are highlighted in some way so the poem stands out. There are numerous ways to do this, but the most popular are to circle the words, connect them with a line, color the words, or blackout the rest if the surrounding text.

Using my new super-cool $5 set of 52 glitter pens from ACMoore, we used we created poetry from the paperback romance. We each opened the book to a random page, tore it out and got busy. Everyone had a steamy scene but me. The most exciting phrase on my page was “flipped him the bird.” Geez.

There was magic created, unexpected and fun. Here are a few of them.  Great for art journals and who knows what else? Another reason to collect old paperstuff.

Falling in love
while everything was struggling
it couldn’t last too long
if you don’t have a sense of humor.

To love could stop the illusion
spinning the dream
living a daydream
altering change

Desperation
“Don’t.”
“Not here, not now”
Passion yearning like a tornado whirling desire heavy and overwhelming.
An obliterating cyclone
terrified of where it would end
